How to Create an Upwork Account in Pakistan and Get It Approved

By Skills Up Freelance Institute  |  24 October 2026

Upwork is one of the biggest freelancing platforms in the world, and many Pakistani freelancers earn from clients in the USA, UK and Europe through it. But a lot of beginners get stuck right at the start: their profile is not approved, or it gets approved and they never get a reply from clients.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to create an Upwork account in Pakistan, how to make your profile strong enough to be approved, and how to withdraw your earnings.

Before you start: what you need

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • Your CNIC or passport, for identity verification.
  • A working email address and mobile number.
  • A clear, professional photo of yourself (face visible, plain background).
  • One clear skill you can offer, plus 2–3 sample projects.

Step 1: Sign up as a freelancer

Go to upwork.com, click “Sign up” and choose that you want to work as a freelancer. Use your real name, exactly as on your CNIC. Never create an account with a fake name or someone else’s details, because Upwork verifies identity and can suspend the account.

Step 2: Write a title that sells one skill

Your title is the first thing a client sees. Make it specific. “Freelancer | Hard worker” says nothing. “B2B Lead Generation Specialist | Verified Emails & LinkedIn Research” tells the client exactly what you do.

Step 3: Write your overview for the client

Most beginners write about themselves: “I am a hardworking person with a BS degree.” Clients care about their own problem. Start with what you do for them, then how you do it, then why they can trust you. Keep it simple and easy to read, and end with a short line inviting them to message you.

Step 4: Add skills, portfolio and rate

  • Skills: choose skills that match your title, not random ones.
  • Portfolio: upload your sample projects. A sample lead sheet, an email campaign or a design is real proof.
  • Hourly rate: start with a fair beginner rate. You can increase it after you get reviews.

Step 5: Submit and verify your identity

Upwork reviews new profiles before they go live. Fill every section completely: photo, title, overview, experience, education, skills and portfolio. Incomplete profiles are more likely to be declined. Upwork may also ask you to verify your identity with your CNIC or passport, and sometimes on a short video call. Use your real location and do not use a VPN; this is against Upwork’s rules and can get the account suspended.

Why Upwork profiles get rejected (and what to do)

  • Incomplete profile: missing photo, overview or portfolio.
  • Too many freelancers with the same skill: Upwork sometimes limits new profiles in crowded categories. A more specific niche helps.
  • Weak or copied overview: write it yourself, in your own words.

If your profile is declined, improve it and check Upwork’s message for the reason. Don’t create a second account; Upwork allows only one account per person.

Step 6: Apply to jobs with Connects

To send a proposal on Upwork, you use “Connects”. Each job needs a certain number of Connects. Don’t waste them: apply to jobs that match your skill, are recently posted, and come from clients with a verified payment method. Write a short, personal proposal for each job.

How to withdraw Upwork earnings in Pakistan

PayPal is not available for Pakistani freelancers. The common options are:

  • Direct to Local Bank (PKR): money goes straight to your Pakistani bank account.
  • Payoneer: receive in Payoneer, then withdraw to your local bank.
  • Wire transfer: usually for larger amounts.

Upwork deducts a service fee from your earnings, and withdrawal methods may have their own charges. Always check the current fees on Upwork’s official help pages.
